What this calculator does

This converter multiplies your amount by the current cross-rate between your two chosen currencies, derived from the ECB's daily reference set. Because no bank or card actually gives you the mid-market rate, it also lets you apply a markup percentage so the result reflects a realistic net amount. Your inputs stay in the browser; the only network request fetches the day's rates.

How to interpret your result

The converted amount uses the official reference rate — a fair mid-point, not a quote. The "after fee" figure is usually closer to reality: typical debit and credit cards add 1–3%, airport kiosks often far more, and specialist providers less than 1%. If you are moving a large amount, even a 1% difference is significant, so compare providers using the markup field before transacting.

Example

Converting $1,000 to Indian rupees at a reference rate of 83.5 gives ₹83,500. With a 2% card markup, the net drops to about ₹81,830 — a ₹1,670 cost that the headline rate hides. Running both numbers is the whole point of the fee field.

Limitations & disclaimer

ECB reference rates are published once per working day and are intended for information, not settlement. Intraday market moves, weekend gaps, and provider-specific spreads are not reflected. For exact settlement amounts, obtain a live quote from your bank, FX broker, or payments provider. Not financial advice.

FAQs

Are these live FX rates?

Yes. The converter uses European Central Bank reference rates, refreshed once per working day (around 16:00 CET) via the free frankfurter.app service. If the feed is unreachable, approximate fallback rates are shown and clearly labelled.

Why is my bank’s rate different?

Banks and card networks add a spread or markup (typically 1–3%) on top of the mid-market rate, plus sometimes a fixed fee. Use the markup field to model what you will actually receive.

Do you store my entries?

No. The only network call fetches the day’s reference rates; your amounts and currency choices never leave the browser.

Which currencies are supported?

The 31 currencies published in the ECB reference set, including USD, EUR, GBP, INR, AUD, CAD, JPY, CHF, CNY and SGD (the UAE dirham and other pegged currencies are not in the ECB set).
