Assumptions

Uses the 2026 federal brackets and the 2026 Ontario brackets, with the federal and provincial basic personal amounts, the Canada employment amount, and credits for your CPP and EI premiums — the same method as CRA’s payroll formulas. CPP is 5.95% up to $74,600 plus 4% to $85,000; EI is 1.63% up to $68,900. Includes the Ontario surtax (20% of provincial tax above $5,818 plus 36% above $7,446) and the Ontario Health Premium, which runs from $0 to $900 depending on income. The Ontario low-income tax reduction is not modelled, so tax is slightly overstated for incomes below roughly $20,000. Other credits you may claim are not included. Check your paystub for exact figures.

Ontario income tax rates for 2026

Two Ontario extras most salary calculators leave out

Ontario is the only province with both a surtax and a health premium on top of its brackets, which is why an Ontario pay stub rarely matches a simple bracket calculation. This calculator applies both.

The Ontario Health Premium

Collected through payroll with your income tax, it is a stepped charge: nothing up to $20,000 of taxable income, rising to $300 by $25,000, $450 by $38,500, $600 by $48,600, $750 by $72,600, and a maximum of $900 above $200,600. Most full-time workers pay $600 or $750 a year.

The Ontario surtax

Once your basic Ontario tax passes $5,818 for the year, 20% is added to the amount above that; past $7,446 a further 36% applies. It starts to bite at roughly $100,000 of income and is the reason Ontario’s effective top rate climbs above the 13.16% bracket rate. Toronto, Ottawa, Mississauga and every other city pay the same — no Canadian city levies its own income tax.

Ontario salary to hourly, and back

A $60,000 Ontario salary on a 40-hour week is about $28.85 an hour before deductions. Switch the calculator to Hourly to go the other way: enter your rate, hours and paid weeks, and it shows both the annual figure and what you keep per hour once tax, the health premium, CPP and EI have come out. Overtime, shift premiums and vacation pay all count as employment income and are taxed the same way.

Hourly or salary — both work

Use Hourly mode to enter your wage, weekly hours, and paid weeks and see your Ontario hourly take-home pay, including what you keep per hour after tax, CPP, and EI. Use Salary mode for an annual figure. Add an RRSP contribution to see how it lowers your taxable income.

Limitations & disclaimer

This is an estimate for an employee claiming only the basic personal amounts. It applies the 2026 federal and Ontario brackets, credits for CPP and EI premiums, and the Canada employment amount, following the method in CRA’s payroll deduction formulas. The Ontario low-income tax reduction is not modelled, so tax is slightly overstated for incomes below roughly $20,000. It does not include other credits, taxable benefits, union dues or pension-plan contributions. Use your paystub or the CRA Payroll Deductions Online Calculator for exact figures.
